Africa project experience

Where I have worked directly, and where the work was research.

My strongest direct experience is in Zambia utility solar, DRC mine hybrid power and Kenya commercial energy analysis. Wider African work includes investment screens, market review, project data and decision briefs.

Utility solar

Financial model and PPA review

Supported utility solar projects using private power sales and grid services. The work covered P90 energy, tariffs, BOQ changes, debt sizing, CFADS, DSCR, LLCR, reserves and contract questions.

My contribution: model review, assumption checks, sensitivities, investor materials and lender style questions.

Solar, battery and diesel scenarios

Assessed options with 45 to 68 MW of solar, 100 to 210 MWh of battery storage and diesel support. The key issue was who supplied and paid for diesel, and how each case changed revenue, CFADS and debt service.

My contribution: scenario logic, fuel responsibility, revenue treatment, operating assumptions and debt schedule review.

Tariff economics and customer fit

Screened customer solar and market opportunities using tariff savings, self consumption, costs, customer credit, PPA structure, grid limits and finance assumptions.

My contribution: tariff models, return and DSCR checks, customer savings logic, market notes and recommendations.

Evidence

Not every project fact has the same certainty

I separate what is confirmed from what is still an assumption. This prevents a draft PPA, estimated project cost and target date from appearing equally certain.

  • Reported fact: supported by a current source.
  • Draft: useful for analysis, but not treated as signed.
  • Client assumption: used clearly and tested where material.
  • Analyst estimate: used for screening and labelled as an estimate.
  • Open item: no positive conclusion until evidence is available.

Wider Africa

Models

Check technical, commercial and finance inputs before review.

Decision material

Turn project files into clear investor, lender and management outputs.

Market review

Screen projects and identify where deeper work is worth the cost.

Scope

This page separates direct analytical work from wider research. It does not claim sole project development, financial close, construction management or lender approval.
